On Facebook Stella wrote, “My brother David passed away peacefully this morning. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, but he got his angel wings and is now at peace.”
She also posted on Facebook on Saturday, “It’s never easy to lose a loved one. My wonderful brother David Parton passed in the early hours of the morning.”
In another post on Sunday, she added, “Thank you for all your kind thoughts to my family as we continue to grieve the loss of our much-loved and cherished oldest brother, David.”
In her most recent post she quoted a verse from the bible: “Oh that I had wings of a dove, I would fly away and be at rest,” she wrote, citing Psalms 55:6.
Dolly Parton has yet to publicly comment on the death.
David’s obituary, shared online by Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine, Tennessee, confirmed that he had died at home, but the cause of death was not revealed.
However, the obituary noted, “The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr David McNabney, Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice, his Cornerstone caregiver, Aubrie Smith and caregiver, Robin Schmidt.”
Parton was referred to as “Dolly (Carl) Dean” in the obituary, referring to her husband Carl Dean.
Unlike his famous siblings, David chose to stay out of the spotlight.
He worked as a bridge builder, retiring as a bridge builder superintendent at Simpson Construction after helping to construct many of Tennessee’s bridges.
David was the oldest son among Dolly’s 11 siblings, which included six brothers and five sisters.
The surviving siblings are Willadeene, 84, Coy, 81, Robert Jr, 76, Stella, Cassie, 73, Frieda, 67, and Rachel, 65.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Randy, Larry, and Floyd; his infant son, Donnie; and his parents, Robert Lee and Avie Lee Owens Parton.
David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Parton.
He is also survived by three children, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
