With the playoffs potentially at stake on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins will be without their starting quarterback
Tua Tagovailoa is listed as inactive for Week 18 against the New York Jets per NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
"#Dolphins WRs Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill are both active today against the #Jets. QB Tua Tagovailoa, as expected, is out," Pelissero said on X after the Dolphins released their inactive list.
Tagovailoa will miss the critical game because of a hip problem, which clouded his status throughout the week.
Sources describe it as a rare hip injury impacting the surrounding muscles, compromising his strength and mobility, and increasing his risk of further harm, according to sources.
Tagovailoa has kept the specifics of his injury private but mentioned this past week that he feels worse now than he did a week after undergoing ankle surgery during his final season at Alabama in 2019. This provides some insight into the intensity of the pain he's experiencing.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel clarified that while the injury is to the same hip Tagovailoa had surgically repaired at Alabama in 2019, it is a different issue. Nonetheless, it remains a concerning development.
