The Miami Dolphins have been making some roster moves after beating the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football. After a victory that has all but saved the team's ability to make the postseason (for now), the Dolphins claimed Tyrel Dodson off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

Dodson started all nine games this season, racking up 71 tackles during that time. In a corresponding move on Wednesday, the Dolphins have shockingly waived linebacker David Long Jr.

Long was named a team captain in 2024 and is now out of a job.

Long signed a $12 million deal with the Dolphins a short time ago, and led the team in tackles last season with 113. He was also rated highly as an inside linebacker. However, he struggled mightily in passing defense.

Long continued to showcase the same issues in 2024, and was eventually replaced by Anthony Walker Jr. and Jordyn Brooks. Despite Long being active the past two games, he did not play a single defensive snap.

The Dolphins have now chosen to move on from Long completely. To make up for the roster spot with Long's departure, the Dolphins claimed tight end Jack Stoll from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Miami stayed quiet during the trade deadline but has now engaged in multiple roster-bolstering moves via teams waiving talented players. Though Long being cut might come as a shock, the Dolphins are likely going to see how Dodson can improve the team's pass rush.

Long will now have a chance to be claimed by another team on waivers. Though he struggled in 2024 thus far, he might find another team calling in the coming days.

Most teams are making moves to improve their rosters to prepare for a playoff push. With a big win on Monday, the Dolphins are now 3-6. While that record does not scream hope, Miami is only 1.5 games out of a playoff spot.

The hope is that Dodson can offer some great defense for passing and rushing situations. Miami is still awaiting the return of Bradley Chubb. Hopefully, Dodson can offer some relief while the team waits for their quarterback-terrorizing defender to come back from a torn ACL.

The Dolphins face the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots in their next two matchups. Both are very winnable games. If Miami can take them both down, they will have a 5-6 record heading into a Thanksgiving showdown with the Green Bay Packers.
