Donald Trump appeared as a guest on Bill Belichick's podcast and shared how he was feeling on the eve of the 2024 presidential election.
On the Monday, November 4 episode of the Let's Go! podcast, hosted by the retired Patriots coach and sportscaster Jim Gray, the former U.S. president was asked about pre-election nerves and if they were comparable to those of an athlete before a big game.
Trump, 78, responded to the question, telling Belichick, 72, and Gray, 64, "I feel great, it is what it is," and later added, "I hate to say it, coach, but this is more exciting than any football game. This is big stuff." Trump referred to the election again later in the interview and said, "You know, it's sort of like the Super Bowl times 1,000."
The former president also spoke about the current race and his perspective, telling the podcast hosts and listeners, "You know, we're against a system. I don't view [Vice President Kamala Harris] as a candidate; I view the Democratic Party as the system. It's a system. It's just the way it is, and it's very interesting to watch. Let's see if I can take down that system. I did it once very successfully."
Most of the conversation between Trump and the hosts revolved around major topics in the sports world, including WNBA player salaries, the proposed LIV Golf and PGA merger, and the cost of sports tickets.
"Your middle class, which is the biggest sports fans, are being priced out. It's not fair," Trump told the hosts. He later added, "The leagues are not taking care of their fans. They really aren't. They're making it impossible."
Belichick and Trump's relationship first made headlines in 2016 when the presidential nominee read a letter he received from the head coach at a rally in New Hampshire. Trump appointed the former coach to his Council on Sports during his presidency and planned to present him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. However, Belichick declined the award following the events of January 6, 2021.
