Donald Trump Says He’ll Consider Pardoning Mayor Eric Adams

Donald Trump has stated he would “take a look” into pardoning New York Mayor Eric Adams. The president-elect’s Monday morning (Dec. 16) news conference offered insight into the politician’s future plans as leader of the free world. One plan in particular found Trump commenting on Mayor Adams being “unfairly” indicted for campaign corruption. Donald Trump insisted that Adams is only being punished for speaking out against the influx of migrants into NYC.

“I think that he was treated pretty unfairly,” Trump said. “It’s very interesting when he essentially went against what was happening with the migrants coming in. And, you know, he made some pretty strong statements like ‘This is not sustainable.’ I said, ‘You know what? He’ll be indicted soon.’ And I said it. That is a prediction, a little bit lightheartedly, but I said it. I said, ‘He’s going to be indicted.’ And a few months later he got indicted. So I would certainly look at [pardoning him].”

Eric Adams recently expressed his desire to work with Trump and his administration in the coming months. After Donald Trump was elected president, Adams held a press conference where he revealed that they plan to work together on infrastructure, public safety, and more issues in New York City.

When asked whether he felt Trump’s presidency would impact his case, Politico reports that Adams side-stepped the question, asserting that his job is to “fight on behalf of New Yorkers” and “defend this city.”

“I communicated with the president yesterday to state that there are many issues here in the city that we want to work together with the administration to address,” Adams told reporters. “The city must move forward and that is what our call is to do.”

“All of us want to be safe and that is something that we push for,” he said, adding his slogan about New York City being the “safest big city in America.”
