President-elect Donald Trump has finally been sentenced in his hush-money case. CNN reports that Judge Juan Merchan hit the controversial figure with an “unconditional discharge” sentence—meaning that Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of falsifying records will stand with no additional penalties.

So, upon being sworn into office on Monday (Jan. 20), Donald Trump will become the first president to have been hit with a criminal conviction and sentenced before becoming commander in chief. However, Trump isn’t at all convinced that the sentencing is sound. NBC reports that the politician appeared at the hearing virtually and challenged Judge Mechan’s ruling, with Trump declaring that he’s “totally innocent.”

“This has been a very terrible experience… It’s been a political witch hunt,” Trump insisted. “It was done to damage my reputation so that I’d lose the election, and obviously, that didn’t work.”

In the aftermath of the sentencing, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account, where he unloaded on the Judge and promised to appeal the decision.

“The real Jury, the American People, have spoken, by Re-Electing me with an overwhelming MANDATE in one of the most consequential Elections in History. As the American People have seen, this ‘case’ had no crime, no damages, no proof, no facts, no Law, only a highly conflicted Judge, a star witness who is a disbarred, disgraced, serial perjurer, and criminal Election Interference,” Trump typed.

“As the American People have seen, this ‘case’ had no crime, no damages, no proof, no facts, no Law, only a highly conflicted Judge, a star witness who is a disbarred, disgraced, serial perjurer, and criminal Election Interference. Today’s event was a despicable charade, and now that it is over, we will appeal this Hoax, which has no merit, and restore the trust of Americans in our once great System of Justice. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

As previously stated, Trump is set to be sworn into office on Monday (Jan. 20) as the 47th President of the United States.
