Eagles' Jalen Hurts in Danger of Missing Wild Card Weekend

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts remains in concussion protocol, the team announced. Hurts initially sustained a concussion in Week 16, but has yet to clear concussion protocol putting his game status for the playoffs in doubt.

Hurts must successfully complete a practice and an examination before clearing the protocol. The Eagles didn't practice on Monday.

On Sunday, Hurts was present at the team's official walkthrough. His attendance indicated his was progressing through the league's five-step concussion protocol. Whether Hurts will return in time for the Eagles' playoff opener remains to be seen.

Head coach Nick Sirianni said he has "no new information" on Hurts as the team is putting their game plan together. Sirianni's last update on Hurts was on Friday, but it was extremely brief.

"He's progressing through the protocol," he said.

However, Sirianni has a history for playing out injury situations for competitive advantage so there is some optimism regarding Hurts' availability on Sunday. The most likely scenario is Hurt will remain in concussion protocol until Wednesday or Thursday.

Sirianni also answered questions regarding the Eagles' backup quarterback situations with Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee.

"I've got a lot of confidence in both of the guys," Sirianni said via the team transcript. "I think when Kenny's had to play, he's played really well. When Tanner's had to play, he's played really well. We got a really good room. Obviously, Jalen had an outstanding season. We just have a great room. Credit to Howie (Roseman, executive vice president/general manager) and his staff of getting those guys in here and just a great job by these guys in taking advantage of their opportunities. Great job by Kellen (Moore, offensive coordinator), Kevin (Patullo, associate head coach/passing game coordinator), Doug (Nussmeier, quarterbacks coach) helping these guys develop. We feel really, really good about the room of where we are."

The Eagles will face the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round on Sunday. The Packers will be without their premier deep threat in wide receiver Christian Watson, who sustained a season-ending injury against the Chicago Bears.

There's a good chance Hurts will be ready for the playoffs, but confirmation about his status will be announced later in the week.
