According to Philly Inquirer writer EJ Smith, "Quinyon Mitchell is getting looked at by trainers on the sideline. Looks like a shoulder injury. Isaiah Rodgers is in for him. #Eagles"
In the Eagles' playoff clash against the Rams on Sunday, rookie CB Mitchell had an otherwise solid start but was forced to leave the game during Los Angeles' opening drive after taking a hit while tackling Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Just as the broadcast was celebrating Mitchell's impressive rookie season, which had seen him playing nearly every defensive snap, the young cornerback was seen heading to the blue medical tent for evaluation.
Mitchell has been a cornerstone of the Eagles' defense, playing 97% of snaps this season. With him sidelined, veteran Rodgers stepped in to take over at right cornerback, and there were also expectations that Kelee Ringo could be rotated into the position depending on the situation.
As a first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft, Mitchell had quickly made an impact, ranking among the league's top cornerbacks in several key categories. He finished 3rd in forced incompletions, with 16 on the season, trailing only Zyon McCollum (17) and Denzel Ward (17).
He also ranked 3rd in yards allowed per coverage snap (0.8), only behind elite defenders Pat Surtain (0.6) and Derek Stingley Jr. (0.7). His ability to shut down opposing wide receivers was a major reason why the Eagles had one of the most formidable defenses in the league.
Mitchell's rookie year was highlighted by a series of standout performances, including impressive showings against top-tier wideouts like Drake London, Ja'Marr Chase, and Mike Evans.
Mitchell's breakout season also included his first career interception in the Eagles' 22-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the 2024 playoffs, further cementing his status as one of the league's brightest young defensive talents.
Despite the setback with his injury, Mitchell's rapid development and continued excellence on the field make him one of the most promising cornerbacks in the NFL, and his absence on Sunday was a blow to Philadelphia's defense as they continue their playoff run.
