Ed Smith leaves Today FM after ‘life changing’ 25 years

Ed Smith is leaving Today FM after a “life changing” 25 years at the station.

The legendary presenter announced that after two decades, his time with them has come to an end.

He thanked all his colleagues and listeners for supporting him through the years in a heartfelt message.

Ed shared a post online explaining his departure as he took time to share that he had fond memories of his time on Today FM.

Taking to social media, he wrote: “Hello all! After 25 life changing, craic having, friend finding and above all, radio making years, my time with Today FM is coming to an end. Shout out to the countless colleagues that endured and inspired me.

“They were, are and will forever be the heart and soul of it all. Most of all I want to thank the listeners. Playing great people great songs is the greatest job in the world and to have had that luck and honour is a joy that will fill my heart forever.

“You were a gas and glorious crew and thank you again for letting me into your ears over all the years. I loved every mad and magnificent minute of it. Much love forever, Ed.”

Musical acts he supported by playing their music and his fellow presenters shared their sadness over his announcement as they wished him well.

E laine Crowley wrote: “Aw noooooo!!!!”

Phil Cawley said: “So sad to hear. You are so loved in the industry. It will take a while to readjust but you will in time. I’m always here for a chat. Thanks for all the great memories and your kind soul.”

Kingfishr shared: “You have been instrumental for us man. Sad to see this chapter end but on and up sir”.

Singer-songwriter Conor Ward added: “Gave me my first ever national radio play which I'll never forget! A champion of Irish music and an absolute gent to boot. I'm sure you'll make a great success of whatever you choose to do next. Thanks for the tunes!”
