Maye Musk, Elon Musk's mother, is making headlines for several controversial statements she recently made about the tech titan.
Maye, 76, appeared on Fox News on Tuesday, November 26, to discuss her son's close relationship with president-elect Donald Trump — and how labels like "billionaire" and "wealthy" are disparaging to her son.
Maye told the outlet that Elon, 53, was having an amazing time planning the new Department of Government Efficiency alongside Vivek Ramaswamy and socializing with Trump, 78. "I've seen [Elon and Trump] together, but very shortly," she explained to Fox News anchor Stuart Varney. "I live in New York, and they're in Mar-a-Lago or at a SpaceX launch, and they just seem to be having fun. A lot of fun," she explained.
The former model went on to say, "And it's nice for both of them to have fun, and [Elon] really respects him a lot and is really happy that there's a future for America now." She also said that she'd warned Elon that the press, who she called the "dishonest Democrat media," would try to "break up the relationship" between him and Trump.
Maye also criticized the way that the media describes her son, who is the richest man in the world. "I don't like the word 'wealthy' or 'billionaire,'" she explained. "I think it's degrading." Instead, she said, her son is "the genius of the world, and people are loving him for that!"
Viewers on social media were quick to chime in with their opinions on Maye's interview. While some users on X —Elon's social media platform, formerly known as Twitter — applauded Mrs. Musk's appearance on the show, others quickly began mocking the way she spoke about her son.
Users of BlueSky, a similar social media platform that has begun gaining users in the aftermath of Trump's election and Elon's rise, were particularly critical. Many referenced the Simpsons character Millhouse superimposing a picture of Elon's face onto a meme where the character says, "My mom thinks I'm cool."
Neither Maye nor Elon have not responded to the criticisms of Maye's interview.
