Elton John and David Furnish have been an item since meeting at the iconic River Cafe in London in 1993. The pair were an unlikely couple, with David hailing from Canada, but hit it off straight away when he received a last-minute invitation to an impromptu dinner party in 1993.
The pair reflected on their first meeting while speaking to River Cafe owner Ruth Rogers on her podcast, Ruthie’s Table 4.
David recalled: “Elton’s friend rang my friend Malcolm and I was going to Malcolm’s house for dinner that night. Elton’s friend said, ‘Why don’t you bring your dinner party down to Windsor?’
“Elton didn’t know me. I had no connection at all... He asked for my number that evening and then he called me the next morning.
“He said, ‘Would you want to come around and have dinner with me at my house in London? We’ll have a Chinese takeaway,’ and I was like, ‘Oh that sounds nice, I love Chinese food’.

“So, I arrive at the house and there’s four giant cardboard boxes from Mr Chow on the kitchen counter and the table’s set for two. I said, ‘Who else is coming? What’s all this food for?’
“Elton didn’t know what I like so he ordered the entire menu.”
David said that he was blown away as he had never had “high-end Chinese food” before.
During the date, the pair “talked and talked for hours and hours and hours and really connected”.

Elton previously said that they pair “fell in love quickly”.
Sharing why he knew David was the one, the Rocket Man singer told Parade magazine: “He had a real job, his own apartment, a car. He was independent. I didn't need to take care of him.
“I thought, 'God, this is new territory for me — someone wants to be with me just because he likes me'.
“I knew he was the one because he is not afraid of me. He always tells me exactly what he thinks.”

Elton proposed in May 2005 and entered into a civil partnership in the December. In 2010, the couple welcomed son Zachary, followed by Elijah in 2013.
They legally wed in 2014, shortly after same-sex marriage became legal in the UK. The small ceremony was held at their Windsor estate with celebrity guests including David and Victoria Beckham, Liz Hurley, Michael Caine and Ozzy Osbourne.
