Eminem's mother, Debbie Nelson, has passed away at the age of 69 after a battle with advanced lung cancer. She died two nights ago in St. Joseph, Missouri. Debbie's diagnosis of advanced lung cancer was made public in September. Despite financially supporting his mother, the 52-year-old rapper has not been in contact with her or other family members in Missouri for several years.
Eminem's half-brother, Nathan 'Nate' Kane Mathers, who shares the same mother as the rapper, has since reacted to the news of Debbie's death with a scathing post. Nate, 38, shared his feelings on Instagram, posting: "Hatred and mixed emotions today." Eminem has not yet commented publicly on the news of his mother's death.
Nate has had a complicated relationship with Eminem over the years, though they have maintained a bond. Eminem has referenced Nate in his music, particularly highlighting their shared struggles growing up, although Nate has remained out of the public eye compared to his famous brother.
At the age of eight, Nate was placed into foster care, and Eminem later adopted him when Nate was 16. Eminem has detailed much of his upbringing and his relationship with both his mother and Nate in his rap songs.

In 2005, Debbie sued Eminem for defamation, winning $25,000 over lyrics that suggested she was a drug user. In 2008, she released a memoir titled My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem.
However, in 2018, Eminem released the song Headlights, where he reflected on his upbringing and sought some form of reconciliation with his mother, admitting their estrangement and mentioning Nate’s time in foster care.
In the song, Eminem rapped: "I was the man of the house, the oldest, so my shoulders carried the weight of the load, then Nate got taken away by the state at eight years old. And that's when I realized you were sick and it wasn't fixable or changeable, and to this day we remain estranged, and I hate it though."
The song opens with "Mum, I know I let you down," and ends with "Maybe we took this too far, I want a new life."

Her death comes shortly after Eminem revealed in the music video for Temporary that his daughter Hailie is expecting her first child. The song serves as a letter to his daughter in the event of his death, and one moment in the video shows footage of him with Hailie on the front steps of their home.
In the video, Hailie hands Eminem a Detroit Lions jersey with “Grandpa 1” on the back, along with an ultrasound. The emotional video also includes several home videos of his beloved 28-year-old daughter and a clip of him at her wedding, hugging her new husband.
At the end of the clip, Eminem is seen sitting on the porch steps, and Hailie, beaming, walks out holding the jersey. She sits beside him as he reads it and looks at the ultrasound. The surprised Just Lose It rapper holds the ultrasound up, showing it to the camera as his jaw drops in shock.
In addition to Hailie, Eminem has two other daughters, Alaina Scott and Stevie Laine Scott, both of whom he shares with his ex-wife Kim Scott.
