Emmy-winning news anchor Chauncy Glover dies aged 39: 'A beacon of light'

American news anchor Chauncy Glover has died aged 39.

Glover was an Emmy Award-winning journalist for KCAL News in Los Angeles.

His death was announced in a family statement published on KCAL. His cause of death has not been reported.

"We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy's beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy," the statement read.

"He was more than a son and brother – he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community."

His family also spoke of his "compassion and dedication to helping others" through his extensive work with Houston-based The Chauncy Glover Project.

Glover began his own youth mentoring program in 2014 to help and inspire teenage boys after witnessing a teen die on the streets from gun violence.

Through his mentorship work, the new anchor successfully helped send 350 young men of colour to college over the years, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

"His talent, warmth, and vision left an imprint on everyone who knew him, and the world is dimmer without him," his family said of the late journalist.

Glover's family remembered him as a "passionate, gifted soul" who was "taken from us far too soon, but his impact will be felt forever."

The news anchor, who had won three Emmy Awards across his career, joined KCAL just a year earlier in October 2023.

He previously worked at ABC13 Houston for eight years.

The station paid tribute to their former co-worker in a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), sharing they were "heartbroken".

"MY Mentor!!!! I grew up into a program with you," one of his Chauncy Glover Project mentees wrote."

"You change my life a lot the passed 7 years Whyyyyyyyy. Love you Chauncy. You did a lot for me in the CGP program. Rest easy. You have made a huge impact on my life."

ABC13 Houston journalist Elita Loresca said Glover was "like a brother" to her.

"Blessed to work with Chauncy for 8 years. So many memories… filled with laughter, smiles, happiness and love," she said.
