Ten years after moving to the US, Kerry-based blogger Erika Fox, formerly Retro Flame, is living her best life in her dream high-rise apartment in the Upper East Side with childhood sweetheart, Tommy O’Callaghan.
It has always been Erika’s plan to reevaluate her metropolitan way of life after hitting the decade mark. In the new issue of RSVP Home, Erika talks about her next steps, reflects on her humble beginnings in the city and her ever-evolving interior design style.
Speaking about what’s next for her and Tommy, Erika says they’ve yet to come to a definite decision.

“We currently have a lease until next year so we’re here until then, at least. We love the location, the windows, the light and we’ve really made it a home now so it’s a very hard one to leave”.
Erika said her and Tommy want to buy a place of their own after a decade of renting, so they’re looking to settle down somewhere outside of the city... “We’re thinking of leaving but I can also see myself wanting to stay one more year just because I love this apartment so much.
“Obviously we’re renting, which is so common in New York — often it honestly just makes more financial sense. But I don’t want to rent forever so it’s a decision of, do we buy in the city or somewhere else? We’re trying to be smart with our decisions for the future.
“We love the city so much and this is my 10th year living here. But I always said after 10 years I’ll decide whether I want to stay longer or go somewhere else outside the city. We’re still thinking it through but I will say, I’m so attached to the city.
“I’m just finding it so hard to think about leaving and going somewhere else. We’ll see what happens. Things change all the time and we’ve had such a great time here so even if we do move, we have such great memories”.
One thing is for sure though, when they do buy their first home, it will be in New York.
“We 100% wouldn’t be leaving New York, maybe just a different neighbourhood or area. This is a one bedroom and we’re lucky it is very spacious, but it would be lovely to move to a two bedroom and have a home office”.
