The Weeknd's sixth studio album could turn into a grand event.
On Wednesday, the four-time Grammy winner announced Hurry Up Tomorrow's release date as Jan. 24, 2025.
He has for months been teasing the LP, which will reportedly be The Weeknd's final album under his stage pseudonym. The album will arrive three years following The Weeknd's 2022 album, Dawn FM.
Here's the timeline for Hurry Up Tomorrow, plus everything we know about the album's arrival.
When was the album announced?
The Hurry Up Tomorrow announcement in September was accompanied by a teaser, where The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, shared his thought process behind the album.
"Yesterday was fourteen years ago," the teaser opens. "We held our breath, falling into a shimmering sea in the After Hours of the night... I look in the mirror and feel both old and new, stuck in limbo and unable to move. I still haven't faced myself.
"More songs could help, but what do I have left to say? Woe is me in my gilded cage, right?" the cryptic message continued. "The very thing that once made me invincible failed me on the world stage. A new trauma surfaced, opening floodgates. A new path awaits. When today ends, I'll discover who I am."
The statement was followed by singles "Dancing in the Flames," the Playboi Carti-featured "Timeless," and Anitta collaboration "São Paulo."
What does the title mean?
The Weeknd detailed what the album title "Hurry Up Tomorrow" means in the album teaser, shown above, writing that it "represents the creative apex of the project" and serves "as the third and final chapter crafted with existential and self-referential themes as seen with the latest visionary teasers that have set fans ablaze with anticipation for this concluding installment."
Hurry Up Tomorrow ends the singer's latest trilogy, which began in 2020 with After Hours.
One day after Hurry Up Tomorrow arrives, The Weeknd will perform one night only concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
What’s it sounding like?
While still pop-leaning, the singles on Hurry Up Tomorrow have been some of The Weeknd's most vibrant music in years. Max Martin, Pharrell Williams, and Mike Dean are among those listed as producers on the album.
What does this mean for The Weeknd's acting career?
Although his role as Tedros on former HBO musical drama The Idol was largely panned, the singer has two film projects in the works, one for romantic comedy-drama Somebody's Girl and the Hurry Up Tomorrow musical psychological thriller.
The Weeknd will lead and direct the film, which reportedly co-stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
"Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium," Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson said when the film was announced. "'With ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow,' in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans."
