ExtraEmily clears up what she actually said in viral ‘racist’ Twitch clip

Twitch streamer ExtraEmily has denied using a racial slur in a clip that has gone viral, after many viewers questioned the use of the alleged term and looked to the platform to take action.

ExtraEmily, a member of the popular streaming collective One True King (OTK), has been steadily growing in Twitch popularity, mostly in the Just Chatting category.

Sometimes these streams will just be solo and interacting with chat, while others will feature other Twitch streamers.

In her February 22 stream, Emily was with fellow streamer nmplol (or Nick Polom) when she spoke on the phone with someone, and said something some believed sounded like a racial slur.

However, many viewers were quick to point out that it sounded more like Emily had said “Nick, uh…” in response to a question being asked about streamers she has worked with. Emily clarified as much in her response to the viral tweet, which had received 13 million views at the time of writing, adding that she “never says this word.”

YALLLL 13 MILLION VIEWS ON THIS?? I CANNOT KEEP MY SILENCE!!!! I SAID “NICK UH” AND CALLED MY FRIEND THE WRONG NAME 😭 I NEVER SAY THIS WORD IN MY LIFEEE this app is so cooked man

In a follow-up, she asked “What do I do if the internet thinks I’m racist when I’m not?! Please believe me, I said Nick … I promise I ain’t just swinging that word around.”

She reposted a clip from just after the one that went viral, making it clear she was streaming with Nick at the time which would explain the slip of the tongue and why she would say Nick then try to correct herself.

HELPPPPP WHAT DO I DO IF THE INTERNET THINKS IM RACIST WHEN IM NOT 😭 PLEASE BELIEVE MEEE I SAID NICK AS U CAN SEE 😭 I PROMISE I AINT JUST SWINGING THAT WORD AROUND!!! https://t.co/KTtV5gTvMd

Many of Emily’s friends and peers came out to defend her over the incident, too.

Cinna said that “it’s really easy to look at the VOD and see she did not intend to use that word.”

I’ve known emily for awhile and watched this stream where nick was in the bathroom. It’s easy when you watch 60 seconds behind this clip to know she just confused the names and added “uh” when she got his name wrong. I also stutter on stream a lot so I know it’s easy to happen…

Others, such as Valkyrae called it an “unfortunate situation” and said it’s “so clear to me you accidentally said Nick then corrected yourself but said ‘uh’ after.”

It’s so clear to me you accidently called him Nick then corrected yourself but said “uh” after 😭 it’s so unfortunate for people that might not know you have a friend named Nick or don’t know your personality.. im sorry you’re being perceived this way! Unfortunate situation

Emily hasn’t posted anything since, and was evidently upset to have been accused of using a slur, especially with Nick on stream with her.
