David Leitch — the stuntman turned director behind John Wick and The Fall Guy — is in talks to direct a new Ocean’s movie, a knowledgeable source confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
TheInSneider was the first to report the news.
The latest film in the heist movie franchise is expected to see the return of George Clooney as Danny Ocean, with Clooney’s Smokehouse banner behind the Warner Bros project. Brad Pitt, who worked with his former stunt double Leitch on Bullet Train, is also expected to return. The ensemble also includes Matt Damon and Cassey Affleck.
All of the Ocean’s movies star a group of criminals pulling off increasingly daring heists. Ocean’s 13, the most recent to star Pitt and Clooney, came out in 2007. The three films in the franchise grossed over $420 million at the domestic box office. A female-ronted spinoff, Ocean’s 8, arrived in 2018.
The latest Ocean’s movie would be the first in the main franchise not directed by Steven Soderbergh. (Gary Ross directed Ocean’s 8.)
This is not the only Ocean’s movie currently in the works. Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie set to star in a Jay Roach-directed Ocean’s Eleven tale that is set in Europe in the 1960s.
Leitch last directed Gosling in the Universal feature The Fall Guy; his 87 North production banner will soon release Ke Huy Quan movie Love Hurts.
