As one of the star’s fans in the US city of Chicago was struggling for change, a kind stranger standing behind her reached through and paid for the remainder of her beverage.

Turning around, the fan saw it was the Espresso singer and delivered a line from the hit song in response: “That’s that me espresso”.
Recalling the encounter on TikTok, the woman said it took place after Carpenter performed a show in Chicago during her Short and Sweet Tour.
“I saw a bunch of videos of her being spotted around Chicago and I really didn’t think much of it,” she said on TikTok.
“I decided to go for a little walk and get some coffee.”
Waiting in line for the drink she realised she had $US5 in cash and decided to use it to pay for the drink — “because it’s ‘girl math’.”
But the total came to $5.45.
Having no change on hand she went to pull her credit card out to pay the outstanding 45 cents.
“I hear this voice behind me saying, ‘I’ve got it’. This hand extends with a $1 bill to the cashier,” she recalls.
“I turn around to thank them and it’s Sabrina Carpenter in the f****** flesh. She’s got her security around her and I have no idea what to say.
“Sabrina Carpenter just paid for my coffee.
“But something just popped into my head and I blurted it out, so I looked Sabrina Carpetner right in the eye and said, ‘That’s that me espresso’.
“I mean, she bought me coffee.”
The video went viral with more than 18.1 million views and soon Carpenter herself delivered, what some believe, was a response.
Carpenter lipsynced a TikTok sound with the text: “And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like, ‘That’s that me espresso’.”
Fans reacted to the videos, which with TikTok’s algorithm, appeared to have placed them directly after one another for many commenters.
“Coming here from coffee girl,” one said.
“Yessss!!! OMG how awkward and amazing for Sarbina to call her out,” another said.
“lmfaoooo I’m here from coffee girl. You know she was mortified with herself after that,” a user said.
“What else are you supposed to say when Sabrina buys you a COFFEE?” added another in defence.
