She made her acting debut in Game of Thrones when she was just 12 years old – but some people are now claiming she could have been around for a lot longer. Eagle-eyed fans have spotted a Maisie Williams look-alike in a year group picture taken at a school in Oakland, California, in 1948.
The picture, which has been shared on Reddit, has been recirculating around the internet as her loyal fans joke about her being a 'time traveller'. Sharing on the time traveller caught thread, a post reads: "Sixth grade Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) travels to Oakland, CA, class in 1948."
In the image, the look-alike, on the third row down on the far right, is seen wearing a patterned skirt and cardigan with striped socks and a bow in her hair. Commenting on the picture, one user said: "As much as that looks like her, I have to ask, why, of all places, would she travel to Oakland in 1948?"
Another user added: "Fourth on the left in the same row is a solid Elizabeth Moss, too!" A third user said: "Maybe Dr Who was a bit more accurate when she was on it than we thought." One more user joked: "Or Arya discovered the secret to immortality and has just been changing her name over the years to prevent being caught.
"She might have been the true mind behind the game of thrones series, as it might have been a true story, and to prevent too much suspicion she had her (literally) oldest friend wrote the books." Williams shot to fame for her role as Arya Stark, a lead character in the HBO medieval fantasy television series Game of Thrones.
Now aged 27, she has won eight awards and has been nominated for 26 others – including Portal Awards for the Best Supporting Actress and Best Young Actor, and Saturn Awards for Best Performance by a Young Actor in a Television Series. This year, she starred in The Luckiest Man in America, TV series The New Look and video game MultiVersus.
It comes after George RR Martin sparked rumours of a Game of Thrones spin-off project starring Williams. The fantasy novelist wrote about a recent visit to London in his blog, sharing how he met with Williams for pizza and pasta. He said the two of them "talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it. But it could be so much fun."
