The Bachelorette alum Kaitlyn Bristowe said she "almost died" during a podcast appearance that tested her endurance.
On Tuesday's episode of her own podcast, Off the Vine, Bristowe said she was "not being dramatic" while recounting her experience as a guest on Beat the Heat—a new podcast hosted by Todd Anderson, a former NFL player turned performance coach.
On his show, Anderson interviews guests in a functional Sisu sauna that starts at 160 degrees Fahrenheit, and he slowly turns up the heat every five minutes until it reaches 230 degrees. Guests are tested to see if they can withstand 30 minutes in the sauna, and the experience is made even more intense "with a rapid-fire trivia showdown," per the show's website.
"Each wrong answer means more water on the rocks, intensifying the fiery atmosphere," the show description continued.
On her podcast, Bristowe told her guest, Jordan Davis, "I think I almost died." She added, "I lasted 17 minutes."
"I'm not being dramatic. I was gagging. I was like: 'I'm gonna throw up. I'm gonna faint. Like, I'm not well. I need out.' And he was like, 'No, you're fine,'" she continued.
Bristowe said she thought she would breeze through the podcast because she was competitive and wanted to last the full 30 minutes, and also because many of the questions were about her native Canada. However, the heat got the better of her.
She said she left the sauna when it was above 200 degrees, adding that she "couldn't even see straight."
"I actually yelled like, 'Ow,' at one point because he poured so much water on it that the steam was like hurting my skin, and I was like, 'This is torture,'" she said.
Bristowe said she was "already feeling exposed" sitting in her bathing suit while filming the podcast, and things only got worse for her once the heat turned up.
"When I came out of the sauna from doing that podcast, I had to lay down because I was really gonna vomit. And then after my body cooled down, I got in the cool plunge. I could have stayed in there all day," Bristowe added.
Newsweek contacted the Beat the Heat team and Bristowe for comment by email.
Bristowe has made multiple appearances in the Bachelor franchise. She came in third on season 19, when Chris Soules was the bachelor. She then went on to co-lead season 11 of The Bachelorette with Britt Nilsson. And she later co-hosted seasons 17 and 18 of The Bachelorette with Tayshia Adams.
