Beloved former Sunrise host David “Kochie” Koch has returned to the breakfast show to share a heartfelt message with newly-appointed Weekend Sunrise presenter David Woiwod.
Currently, Woiwod and co-host Monique Wright are filling in for Nat and Shirvo on the weekday edition of the show, with the pair now on Christmas break.
The duo interviewed Kochie, who was with Sunrise for 21 years before stepping down in June 2023, for his Compare the Market segment.

“Would you like to introduce this?” Wright asked Woiwod.
“I feel like I’ve slipped into the Twilight Zone, something has gone wrong here — I should be talking to him in a field somewhere (as a roving reporter),” Woiwod joked.
Kochie chuckled, then offered his heartfelt congratulations.
“Woiwod, congratulations, so well deserved,” Kochie said.
“It’s fantastic, great to see your mum and dad and the lie detector test (segments on Sunrise), I loved that as well,” Kochie said.
The trio had a good laugh, their friendship from their time at Seven clearly on show.
Kochie’s message came after Woiwod began his tenure at Weekend Sunrise on Saturday, with what has been a resounding success.
His debut came just two days after he was on Thursday announced as the replacement for beloved outgoing host, Matt Doran.
“I’m absolutely thrilled picking up with Matty Doran left off and to meet all your wonderful Sunrise viewers. I already kind of know them, getting to know them even better,” Woiwod said.
Woiwod was the Sunrise Melbourne reporter for four years before his US posting and joked about his early days on the show.
“When I was doing the big stories like the stolen chickens from the Burwood Primary School, I was doing the exotic birds at the Werribee sewerage farm,” Woiwod said.
“A lot of big stories. So excited to be joining the team, to be joining Mon. Of course, our wonderful Weekend Sunrise and Sunrise viewers, to meet them and hear their stories, I am thrilled beyond belief.”
Kochie left Sunrise last year, after nearly 21 years and more than 5300 shows, making him the longest-serving breakfast TV host in Australia.
“I have loved every single minute of my time at Sunrise, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the last 21 years,” Kochie said.
“I’ve been privileged to experience so many adventures, to meet so many incredible people and to cover so many moments of history in the making. It really is the world’s best job.”
