Former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio has been arrested for drunk driving.

ESPN's Adam Rittenberg was among the first to report the news via Twitter/X.

"Wisconsin staff member Jack Del Rio, the former NFL coach, was arrested early Friday for operating while intoxicated after a car he was driving hit a street sign and broke a fence. He "showed signs of impairment," per Madison police. No injuries were reported," Rittenberg posted.

Del Rio was currently serving as a "Senior Advisor to the Head Coach" for the University of Wisconsin. He was hired to work with head coach Luke Fickell.

Wisconsin athletics released this statement:

"Wisconsin athletics is aware of the incident involving football staff member Jack Del Rio. We take matters like this very seriously and we are continuing to gather information."

The Badgers were off on a bye week last week.

Del Rio last coached in the NFL in 2017 for the then-Oakland Raiders. It was his second and final stint as a head coach in the NFL.

Del Rio replaced Dennis Allen and led the Raiders to a 7-9 record in his first year, third in the AFC West. However, things turned around for Del Rio and the Raiders in 2016, as they recorded a 12-4 record, second in the AFC West, but fell short in the AFC Wild Card game to the Houston Texans.

After the 2016 season, the Raiders signed Del Rio to a four-year contract extension; however, that was short-lived, as he was fired after a 30-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2017 regular season finale, ending with a 6–10 record.

Prior to his head coaching stint with the Raiders, he was a longtime head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2003, he became the second head coach of the Jaguars following Tom Coughlin's dismissal.

Del Rio guided the Jaguars to the playoffs twice in nine seasons and ultimately finished with a 68-71 record in the regular season. He was fired in late Nov. 2011. From his years with the Jaguars, Del Rio holds the NFL record for the longest tenure of any head coach to have never won a division title

Prior to coaching in the NFL and college, he was a third-round draft pick from the University of Southern California. He played for four different teams in the NFL, including the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Minnesota Vikings.
