After a long five years of waiting, Gavin and Stacey returned to our TV screens last night with a Christmas special.

The BBC show, which brought joy to our screens for 16 years, aired for the final time, bringing back all our favourite characters to resolve the unanswered questions from the 2019 Christmas special.

The show opened up with a discussion about a wedding between Gavin and Stacey, but fans were shocked to find out the wedding was not for Nessa and Smithy, after her proposal in 2019.

Instead, it was for Smithy and his girlfriend Sonia reports the Manchester Evening News. Which led one viewer to announce she was "turning off".

After a party in Pam and Mick's house before the stag do, Smithy's friends and family joined the gang but fans were quick to point out one iconic character was nowhere to be seen.

The noticeable absence continued to confuse fans as the posts kept coming: "If Deano doesn't turn up I for one will be very disappointed" and "The Essex boys, but where's Deano.... #GavinAndStacey."

Deano is a friend of Gavin and Smithy, having worked with Smithy and is best known for being somewhat clueless and native on the BBC show. He learnt Welsh prior to coming over to Wales with the "Essex Lads" for a night out.
