After 17 wonderful years, Gavin and Stacey are about to bid farewell on telly with tonight's much-hyped finale episode. Fear not, fans because the lovely Joanna Page, our very own Stacey Shipman, has hinted that there might be future treats in store.
Joanna has dangled the tantalising possibility of a spin-off centred around Neil 'the baby', now all grown-up, which could give eager viewers their Welsh fix. But any such venture would need the golden touch of creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, as Joanna herself acknowledged when she confessed to The Sun: "A spin off series would be fun, I think the curiosity would be very high. But only if it was to be written by Ruth and James."
And the tease doesn't stop with Joanna. Both Ruth and James, the geniuses behind characters Smithy and Nessa, said they're open to exploring where the beloved pair could end up next.
While munching away on the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, James couldn't help but admit: "We don't know if we have another idea in us but I can honestly say that if we didn't attempt to try and even explore the idea of writing together then I'd be so disappointed."
So, with Christmas Day upon us, the nation holds its breath will Smithy's answer to Nessa's festive proposal be revealed?
Remember, the last scene in 2019 left us screaming at our screens as the credits rudely interrupted the cliffhanger of a lifetime.
Fans have been spinning wild theories about the finale, from nuptials to a grim farewell. On Heart Radio, Ruth and James dropped some cheeky hints about what's in store.
Ruth played coy, saying: "The thing is, I think it would spoil it for you if we told you what's actually going to happen. I think you're just going to have to go with the flow and ride those emotions."
And when probed about whether the infamous fishing trip mystery involving Uncle Bryn and Jason West will be revealed, Ruth tantalisingly added: "All we can say is it is not illegal in this country."
James himself stirred the pot regarding a possible character demise, quipping earlier in the year: "What we were editing today was a very moving and emotional scene at Bryn's funeral. I'm joking, I promise. Or am I?".
