A video of a golden retriever's mission to befriend a new "dog" on the block has captured the hearts of social media users.
With the holidays approaching, the dog's owners placed a golden retriever statue outside their front door as part of their Christmas decorations. The life-size ornament seemingly made their dog, Reedy, believe a new friend was in the neighborhood, and he knew he needed to make an offering to welcome the canine.
In a November 25 video posted on the TikTok account @runreedyrun, Reedy can be seen proudly walking up to his house with a giant stick in his mouth, as he usually does. His owner told Newsweek via TikTok that he normally collected sticks on his walks and left them at the bottom of the stairs outside the door. However, things were different this time.
Reedy saw the Christmas decoration sitting outside the front door and apparently decided he shouldn't be the only one who enjoyed playing with a stick. He took the stick back from his owner, brought it up the stairs and placed it in front of the "dog."
"That was the first time he tried that," his owner said, adding, "When he carried it up, it was so sweet."
Despite what it looks like from the video, the friendship didn't blossom overnight. Reedy wanted nothing to do with the decoration at first, his owner said.
"We had it inside when we first got it, and he was terrified of it," the owner added. "But when we moved it outside, he got sad."
The more Reedy saw the golden retriever-looking object, the more it grew on him. Now, he can't stop bringing sticks to his new "friend."
The TikTok video has delighted users on the platform, where it received more than 403,000 views and 65,000 likes. The clip has also generated hundreds of comments, with viewers praising the dog's "pure" intentions.
"The way he turns as if waiting for his friend to come inside too," one user said.
The official TikTok account for Kleenex commented, "The dog decoration coming to life is the Christmas movie we all want this year."
Other users demanded that Reedy's owners get him a real dog pal, with one commenter writing, "Poor baby just wants a friend for Christmas."
