Scam Detection in Phone and Google Play Protect are two new AI safety technologies that Google has released for Android devices to shield customers from malicious apps and phone-based frauds. Phone Scam Detection tracks speech patterns to spot frauds, and Google Play Protect’s real-time warnings track background activities in applications to find dangerous ones. These capabilities, which may be enabled or disabled, are exclusive to Pixel smartphones and are only accessible in the United States at this time.
To improve safety and privacy, Google has launched two new real-time protection features: Google Play Protect and Scam Detection in Phone. These capabilities identify fraud and scams on phones and provide real-time notifications for malware and harmful apps.
The business claims that these new security capabilities will soon be accessible on additional Android smartphones, with the Pixel being the first to get them.

Scam Detection AI tool
Google AI is being used to fight scammers with Scam Detection, a technology that helps detect and stop scams before they do damage.
Scam Detection is being made available to English-speaking users of Google’s public beta in the United States who have a Pixel 6 or later.
An AI tool called Scam Detection uses on-device technologies to instantly identify possible scam calls. It warns consumers by using conversation patterns linked to fraud. For example, Scam Detection may assess a call to identify whether it is probable spam and provide an alert if the caller says they are from your bank and requests an urgent money transfer because of an account breach.
It may be turned on for upcoming calls, but it is off by default. In the Phone app’s settings or while on a particular call, users can disable it whenever they choose. Conversation audio or transcription cannot be saved on the device, sent to Google servers, or retrieved after the call since the AI detection model and processing are entirely on-device.
Google introduced the Gemini Nano, an advanced on-device artificial intelligence model that drives Scam Detection on Pixel 9 series devices. Other powerful Google on-device machine learning models have made this AI-powered security available to Pixel 6+ users.
Live threat detection for stalkerware
Google Play Protect has included real-time threat detection for stalkerware, which gathers private or sensitive information without the user’s knowledge or permission. Private Compute Core is used in this function to safeguard consumers from malicious programs while maintaining privacy. It is now accessible on Pixel 6+ devices and will soon be extended to other phone manufacturers.

The business claims that Google Play Protect constantly protects users from malicious applications and viruses by examining behavioural indicators on permission usage and app interactions. If malicious apps are found, live threat detection notifies users so they may take quick action to safeguard their devices. It can detect rogue applications that conceal their actions or lie inactive before committing suspicious activities by examining app activity patterns.
