Google’s Year in Search 2024: Here is what people in India searched for most

The full list of Year in Search 2024 has been made public by Google, which reveals what Indians searched for this year in a variety of categories, including movies, shows, hum to search, memes, people, sports, travel and a lot more.

India’s search for this year’s content was broad, including sports, entertainment, indie music, memes, and quirky lingo. The country celebrated its athletes, recalled the late Ratan Tata, and checked new topics including relationships and workplace behaviours. The search also included Azerbaijan, a popular travel destination, as well as useful information like voting procedures and AQI locations. Google was used to find useful information and satisfy curiosity about the world, such as the meaning of “All Eyes on Rafah.”

Overall, Google’s top two trending searches in India this year were the Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup, with the Indian Super League ranked 10th. Other top searches included Election Results 2024 and the Olympics 2024.

Stree 2, Kalki 2898 AD, 12th Fail, Laapataa Ladies, and Hanu-Man were among the most popular movie searches on Google in 2024. Meanwhile, the most popular shows searched were Heeramandi, Mirzapur, The Last of Us, Bigg Boss 17, and Panchayat.

The most popular Hum to Search songs this year are Ye Tune Kya Kiya, Katchi Sera, Husn, Illuminati, and Nadaaniyan.

In order to express themselves and spread humour, people this year adopted a variety of amusing memes. An amusing perspective on unforeseen circumstances was offered by the “Blue Grinch Knee Surgery” meme. Fun memes like “Very Demure, Very Mindful” and “Hamster Meme” were well-liked. While the “Gen Z leave work email” trended, the “Gen Z Boss” meme emphasised workplace behaviours. “Orange Peel Theory,” the most popular meme, sparked discussions online. Among dating-related searches, “Throning Dating” was the most popular. Users looked up keywords like “moye moye,” “cervical cancer,” and “pookie” in addition to location-specific queries like AQI levels, sports bars, bakeries, and trendy cafés.

While the worldwide Palestine crisis has raised concerns about “All Eyes on Rafah.” The Indian political environment has piqued curiosity, with “How to vote Lok Sabha” being the most popular “How To” search. People have also voiced concerns about the weather and health, searching for “excessive heat” and “AQI near me.”

This year, Indian travellers chose Azerbaijan, Bali, Manali, Kazakhstan, and Jaipur as the top travel destinations on Google. Popular recipes included mango pickle, kanji, charnamrit, dhaniya panjiri, ughadi pachadi, and shankarpali.
