Outerwear specialist Gore-Tex is the latest brand to launch a repair service, with a new online portal powered by United Repair Centre.
The new service, currently in its pilot phase and only available in the UK, is an "exploratory step" in the brand's sustainability journey. Having added United Repair Centre to its directory of authorised repair centres in 2024, the two businesses are joining forces to give customers direct access to repairs and extend the life expectancy of their Gore-Tex items.
The service covers all manner of repairs, including zips, Velcro, trims and tears, the Gore-Tex Repair Service has a professional repair solution for a wide range of the brand's offering, including clothing, gloves, and accessories. Using Gore-Tex's official repair services also retains the brand's 'Guaranteed To Keep You Dry' promise.
Future development of the Gore-Tex Repair Service will see more authorised repair centres added to the platform in due course. The service consists of four steps. Customers are asked to provide more information about the product and the repair request and will then receive a cost estimate based on these details. Next, the repair is booked and the customer sends in their Gore-Tex garment. Once received, the product undergoes an evaluation and necessary repairs are completed within five days. Finally, the customer will receive an email notification when the product is ready to be returned and the repair is complete. "As an authorised Gore-Tex Repair Provider, we have the quality mark for outdoor repairs. Now, with our partnership expanding into digital technology and customer experience, we're not just fixing gear, we're transforming the industry." – Paul Kerssens, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder, United Repair Centre. The Gore-Tex Repair Service complements a range of existing initiatives designed to extend product lifespan. These include the 'Guaranteed To Keep You Dry' promise, free temporary repair patches, the Gore-Tex Gear Tour free repair service, and the brand’s rigorous performance standards and product testing frameworks.
