One of Gregg Wallace's friends has lent his support after he stepped back from MasterChef amid accusations during filming.
The 60 year old is facing allegations of misconduct and that he told jokes of a “sexualised nature”. A statement from the show’s production company, Banijay UK, said that Wallace is “committed to fully co-operating throughout the process”.
William Sitwell, who writes for the Telegraph and a critic for MasterChef, has known Wallace for over 25 years and has openly expressed how "startled" he is about the claims against the BBC host.
He describes his encounters during filming with Gregg on the set of MasterChef, writing: "As far as I’m concerned he’s always genuinely interested in the wellbeing of people around him.
"The health, the wealth, or otherwise, of those he works with, of his friends and very large circle of acquaintances. And he’s equally open about his own life, sometimes quite extraordinarily so."

William also added: "So, as someone who has known him for a good 25 years I find the news of “inappropriate behaviour” startling to say the least."
He goes on to label Gregg as a "top bloke" and "interesting, funny, exhausting and outrageous."
Earlier this year, Gregg was allegedly accused of inappropriate sexual comments to a female BBC staffer while appearing on Impossible Celebrities.
According to the Sun, the TV personality faced complaints about his behaviour back in 2018 as he reportedly took off his top and bragged about his sexual encounters.

In 2023, he was allegedly also accused of being rude and insulting to women on a different show, Inside The Factory. Wallace disputed this.
Gregg has since reposted William's article on his official Instagram story, just hours after Scottish singer Rod Stewart shared a fiery rant at him.
The musician branded the dad-of-two a "tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully" and criticised the TV judge for "humiliating" his wife Penny Lancaster when she appeared on the show in 2021.
