A pair of working dogs took their job very seriously as they alerted their owner to a major threat in their doghouse.
That threat? A leaf.
Bronx and Rosie live with their owner, Amanda Cameron, on a farm in Alabama, which she runs with her husband, Chris.
"Rosie was abandoned on our road and we brought her home, and Bronx fell in love with her instantly," Cameron told Newsweek. She regularly shares updates on everyday life to the farm's TikTok account @cameron.farms, including what it's like to live alongside the dogs, goats and chickens on their small farm.
Now a snapshot of the dogs' lives has spread like wildfire online, as a clip showing Bronx and Rosie warning their owner about an unknown entity in their doghouse has gone viral. Posted on November 7 and boasting 65,000 likes and almost 600,000 views, it starts with Cameron walking towards the doghouse in the dark, where the two pups are warily facing the entrance.
"My dogs alerted me to a threat inside their doghouse," she wrote, as the video showed the two dogs getting braver as their owner approached. They began jumping towards the house and barking furiously as the camera pointed out the suspect.
"A leaf," Cameron wrote on the clip. "As I approached they became more brave and took on the 'threat'."
At this point, Bronx and Rosie are climbing over each other to get into the kennel and attack the leaf, with their owner writing proudly: "Look at them attack!"
Eventually, Rosie gets brave enough to pick up the leaf and take it out of the dog house, and the farm is safe from the threat once more.
"Bronx is a very cautious dog, if anything is out of his normal routine it throws off his whole day," Cameron, who also hasYouTube account @CameronFarms, told Newsweek. "Rosie gets amped up when I encourage her to 'get it'."
TikTok users loved the clip, with one writing: "I just came from another video of a dog who survived a leaf attack, stuck to his front paw," and another replying: "It's a nationwide problem."
"The important thing is they didn't overreact and handled the situation with grace," another laughed, as one worried: "Fall is gonna be dangerous this year."
Bronx and Rosie are both mixed breeds, with Cameron undertaking a DNA test on both pets to try and figure out their ancestry. It found that Bronx was mostly Husky and Rosie was mostly pit bull, with other breeds mixed in.
Certain dog breeds have a more natural instinct to protect their homes and family, and make excellent guard dogs, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). These breeds will alert their owner when a visitor arrives, but will also intuitively know when a situation arises where they need to defend their owner.
The AKC notes the Akita, Doberman pinscher, German shepherd dog and rottweiler as among some of the best breeds for guarding duties.
