Gurman: Mac event still expected after iPad mini press release launch

While Apple announced a new iPad mini with a press release last week, the company still has bigger plans to announce new Macs this month. As inventory runs low at Apple Stores, we’re expecting updates to the MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, and more.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple won’t hold a “full-scale, iPhone-like event” for the new Macs. Instead, Gurman’s expectation is that it will be an “online-focused” launch, while press will still be offered hands-on opportunities.

Gurman says:

Latest on Macs: Inventory at Apple retail stores is very low on iMacs, Mac mini and MacBook Pros, Magic Keyboards, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. I still anticipate imminent M4 upgrades for the iMac and MacBook Pro, as well as a full-scale Mac mini overhaul.

I’ve seen no evidence to suggest Apple will hold a full-scale, iPhone like event at its headquarters with press. Instead, I’d anticipate the announcement to be online-focused with press hands-on opportunities, not too dissimilar from Scary Fast last year.

This description aligns with other recent announcements from Apple, such as the “Let Loose” iPad event in May and the “Scary Fast” Mac event in October 2023. In both instances, there was no in-person component at Apple Park. Instead, the events were streamed online for everyone to watch, while members of the press were invited to small gatherings in cities such New York City and London.

Last October, Apple announced its “Scary Fast” event on October 24 and the event was held on October 30. This suggests we might get an Apple event announcement for the M4 Macs as soon as tomorrow. Gurman previously reported that the M4 Macs could launch on November 1.
