Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale divorced eight years ago, but the 55-year-old singer isn’t done talking about her 59-year-old ex. She’s now happily married to country superstar Blake Shelton and can’t stop gushing about how different their love is compared to the first time around with Rossdale.

Stefani pulled no punches when talking to The Guardian about the differences in her two marriages. “Meeting my husband felt like a second chance at life because when my family fell apart it was a catastrophe,” she explained. “How do you pick yourself up from that? But God put this other person there to love me.”

To recap the “Hollaback Girl” singer’s split from the Bush frontman, we have to go back to 2015 when Rossdale allegedly had an affair with the couple’s nanny, Mindy Mann. Stefani found explicit photos on the family’s electronic device from their employee to her husband. “The iPad was linked to Gavin’s phone,” an insider told Us Weekly nine years ago. “One of the other nannies discovered the exchange and told Gwen.” The fling reportedly lasted for three years right under her nose, so the discovery was devastating for Stefani.

Even though she got a second chance at true love with Shelton, The Voice judge recently wrote a song, “Somebody Else’s” on her new Bouquet album which discusses her reaction to the end of her romance with Rossdale. “I don’t know what a heart like mine / Was doin’ in a love like that, ah / Doin’ in a love so bad,” she sang on the track. “I don’t know what a woman like me / Was doin’ with a man like you, ooh / But now I got a love so true.” If you read between the lines, it’s pretty clear that Stefani is shading her ex — Rossdale could never be the man that Shelton is in her eyes.

Stefani is doubling down on her love for the “Austin” singer. “I know this sounds weird, but Blake and I came together in gardening,” she gushed to The Guardian. “We have a house together in Oklahoma and during the pandemic, we came across this very old building on the land and there were some purple irises, which someone must have planted centuries ago, but they’ve survived. I wrote the song, ‘Purple Irises,’ about that and how it feels to find true love and the insecurities of not wanting to lose it.”

Stefani isn’t going to let Shelton go because they have the real deal, and she isn’t going to let Rossdale forget it.
