'Hasty' Liam Payne posthumous song release plan was 'heavy misjudgement'

3 weeks ago 2

Liam Payne's posthumous single release was a "hasty" idea.

The former One Direction singer sadly died on 16 October after he fell from a third floor balcony while on Buenos Aires, Argentina. Plans to release his song titled Do No Wrong were publicised just two weeks after the singer's death, which sparked huge backlash from his loyal fans and calls for "respect" regarding his family.

Speaking on behalf of Betfred Lotto, celebrity PR specialist Kayley Cornelius told Daily Star that the idea was a "hasty" one and a total "misjudgement". She explained: "It’s evident that this decision was a hasty one, made on biassed judgement, and this misjudgement is now costing them heavily."

"It’s understandable as to why many are now labelling this move a ‘cash grab,’ raising questions about the intent with this release. The backlash Liam Payne’s former label is currently experiencing is the direct result of when you have the right idea, but poorly execute it."

Kayley added that navigating such a "sensitive" situation "is always challenging" and "can be difficult to get the timing right," but said that it is "likely Liam's label did have the best intentions" when deciding to release the song. It was recently announced by producer Sam Pounds that the single will be shelved for the moment.

In a statement he said: "Today I am deciding to hold Do No Wrong and leave those liberties up to all family members. I want all proceeds to go to a charity of their choosing (or however they desire). Even though we all love the song it's not the time yet."

"We are still mourning the passing of Liam and I want the family to mourn in peace and in prayer. We will all wait. With love Sam Pounds.” The producer had previously said that he wanted to release the song to provide “healing power” to fans, friends and family.

The artwork for Liam's now-pulled single is a man surrounded by angel wings, soaring up to a broken heart.
