Once again, Heidi-ween proved itself the queen of all spooky season celebrations.
Heidi Klum‘s famous fright fest marked its 23rd year on Thursday (Oct. 31, 2024), complete with wild costumes, celebrity guests, and sweet-themed drinks. The black carpet at the Hard Rock Hotel in Times Square saw a parade of stars, from the real Barney to Grease lovebirds Sandy and Danny.
The big moment came later when Klum herself appeared through the backdrop with her husband Tom Kaulitz. They stood side-by-side in a leaf-filled ditch, dressed as characters from a beloved, not-so-scary alien movie.
Unveiling Heidi Klum's Halloween Costume at Her Party
Klum was dressed as E.T. — well, a version of E.T. Her husband was the classic character, while she seemed to be E.T. from the scene where he wears a blonde wig. Mr. and Mrs. E.T., you might say.
“People want to be cool, but I feel like the cool factor then goes and everyone has more fun when you're dressed up,” Klum said about her costume philosophy.
Heidi Klum couldn't find a Halloween party she liked — so she made her own. True to form, the model's outfit left no trace of runway glamour. Instead, she sported a massive alien head so lifelike its eyes blinked and mouth moved. Klum and Kaulitz's real faces were hidden somewhere in the costume necks, but they managed to share a kiss or two for the cameras.
Klum's daughter Leni also graced the carpet, briefly posing with her mom in a colorful alien outfit.
Inside, the party space was decked out in Gothic style. Candles cast a soft glow, and fake spider webs climbed the stairs between the bar and dance floor. Guests in sky-high heels and rainbow wings mingled as DJ Questlove played pop hits. The walls shook with bass from Gwen Stefani and Lizzo classics, while in a corner booth, Bethenny Frankel, dressed as Wonder Woman, danced with one foot on the table.
The night's special drink was a Butterfinger-tini, a Halloween candy-inspired cocktail with crunchy nougat instead of salt on the rim. “You don't taste so much the alcohol,” Klum said of the drink. “Anything that can be disguised in terms of alcohol I'm down.”
Who showed up at Heidi Klum's spooky shindig?
As always, Heidi's Halloween bash was the place to be for celebs. The guest list didn't disappoint.
Disney Channel alums Aly & AJ Michalka came as 1920s clowns. “This is a 4 1/2 hour getup,” AJ Michalka shared, adding that Kim Petras‘ “Turn Off the Light” mixtape set the mood while they got ready. “These costumes took a while to source.”
Country star Kelsea Ballerini and her beau Chase Stokes walked the carpet as Danny and “bad” Sandy from Grease, even recreating that iconic final scene, cigarette stomp and all.
Jackie Tohn, who plays Esther in Netflix's Nobody Wants This, had her own fangirl moment when she spotted Barney in a pumpkin costume behind her. She couldn't resist snapping a selfie and gushing about being a huge fan.
Other familiar faces included gymnast Suni Lee as a ballerina, and Nicole Scherzinger, fresh from her Sunset Blvd. Broadway show, rocking fake blood on her neck.
Klum loves seeing her guests go all out with their costumes. But she's got a knack for spotting her friends, even in the wildest disguises. “I love discovering where all my friends are,” she says, “just because it's always a guessing game.”
Heidi Klum looks back on her first Halloween bash
Klum kicked off her party tradition back in 2000. Since then, she's pushed the boundaries with jaw-dropping, sometimes body-altering costumes that turn dress-up into an art form. In 2022, she was unrecognizable as a worm, and in 2015, she went all out with prosthetics to become Jessica Rabbit.
Klum said that while every costume holds a special place in her heart, her alien look stands out. “People could come all day and watch,” she recalled, explaining how she transformed in the window of Amazon Books in Manhattan, giving passersby a front-row seat to her hours-long metamorphosis.
