Helen Skelton caught on live TV branding award show win a 'disgrace' after losing out on BAFTA

Helen Skelton, the popular presenter known for her work on Countryfile, Morning Live, and Strictly Come Dancing, once confessed to a moment of live TV embarrassment where she was caught saying “it’s a disgrace" after losing out on a BAFTA award to Mr Tumble.

The 41-year-old, who first gained recognition as a children's television presenter on Newsround and Blue Peter, was nominated for the prestigious award following her 500-mile trek in the South Pole for Sports Relief.

Speaking on the Cannon Hall Farm podcast, Helen recalled how she had been seated at the front of the venue during the awards ceremony and felt confident about her chances of winning.

However, when Mr Tumble star Justin Fletcher was announced as the winner, Helen admitted to reacting poorly, the Mirror reports.

She said: "Years ago I was up for kids presenter at the BAFTAs and I'd been nominated for a few years but hadn't won. This particular year my table was right at the front, right by the stage, and I'm thinking 'I'm in here'. The guy comes on to present the award and I was like Zoolander, I was out of the chair but Mr Tumble won and not me."

She added: "To be fair, I did not react well and I believe I said 'it's a disgrace' as the camera panned to me. Now, I'm a big fan of Mr Tumble, and I didn't have kids then so I did not get the amazing work that he does, and it is amazing what he does, however, at the time I probably didn't appreciate it."

Helen opened up about a recent gaffe while discussing whether she was planning on attending the TV Choice Awards last month. Reflecting on award ceremony seating, she admitted: "I don't pick where I'm put it and it's risky putting me with the bosses because I always say the wrong thing."

She's set to compete on Richard Osman's House of Games tonight, alongside actor Ben Bailey Smith, comedian Robin Ince, and comic Lara Ricote, where they'll test their knowledge in a series of games.

Regarding her career, Helen is known for presenting children’s television and stayed with Blue Peter until 2013. She left the show to explore "new projects" and remarked at that time to the BBC: "I will always count my time on Blue Peter as one of the most special times of my life".

On her departure from the iconic programme, she explained her reasons, saying: "However Blue Peter is a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year job, and with so many exciting new projects in the pipeline, I can't be there as much as I would like, so I've made the difficult decision to hang up my badge."
