Here’s Why Tom Holland Doesn’t Attend Many Events with Girlfriend Zendaya

Tom Holland is as supportive of a boyfriend as they come — but he prefers to stay by the sidelines.

During an interview with Men’s Health posted in January 2025, the Spider-Man actor revealed why he typically doesn’t like to attend red carpet events with girlfriend Zendaya.

“Because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us,” he explained.

Tom was noticeably missing from several of Zendaya’s press runs from 2024, including for hit movies Dune: Part Two and Challengers press runs. However, the couple isn’t completely out of the spotlight — as they often step out for a handful of public dates.

ICYMI, Tom and Zendaya first sparked romance rumors in 2017, after starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming together. Originally denying their relationship, they two finally confirmed their romance prior to the 2021 release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now, they’re set to star in another movie outside of the Marvel Universe, Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming Universal Pictures movie set to premiere in 2026.

The British actor recently spoke about what it’s been like to act alongside his girlfriend while appearing on a December 2024 episode of the “Dish” podcast.

“Studios love it. One hotel room. Separate drivers. We’re not crazy now. Listen it’s work, alright?” he joked, before explaining: “Oh God, yeah. It’s a saving grace. Yeah, best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said. “It’s just that perfect thing when you’re on set and a director will give you a note that maybe you don’t agree with, or I know that she doesn’t particularly like, and it’s just that, like, familiar glance at each other of like, can’t wait to talk about that later.”

For her part, Zendaya shares similar sentiments to her boyfriend, as she told Vanity Fair that she feels “strangely comfortable” when working with Tom while on set.

“It’s like second nature, if anything. You feel extra safe with the person you’re acting beside,” she explained in a November 2024 profile. “I love working with him. He’s so talented, and so passionate about what he does. He always gives things one thousand percent, even if he’s absolutely worn down. I really appreciate that about him. It feels pretty normal. That’s how we met. Literally, at a chemistry read.”
