Holland & Barrett is set to open 50 new stores across the UK from next year. The retailer, which has 715 shops across the UK, is planning to open one shop per week in 2025.
In the last year, the health and beauty store opened 35 sites and refurbished another 280.
Holland & Barret has just under 50 concessions in Tesco, with the latest opening in Burnley this week, and plans to open another "eight to 10 by Christmas". The retailer also has three concessions within Next stores which saw them form a partnership in July.
The UK chain is in talks with new partners about expanding in-store concessions and plans to focus on sites located within retail parks and supermarkets.
Nick Gerrard, property and format director at Holland & Barret told The Grocer: “There are some undeniable facts, we want Holland & Barrett to be accessible.

“We’ve only got 19 standalone sites on retail parks because generally, the size of boxes available to us are too big.
“However, there’s partners in those retail parks, be that Tesco or Next or whoever, who actually have spare space and want to make their offer more interesting to the customers that shop with them.”
Holland & Barrett stores are normally around 1,600 sq ft in size. This is compared to space in retail parks which reaches around 6,000 sq ft.

However, Holland & Barrett's biggest store is located in Manchester’s Arndale Centre at 4,000 sq ft. Gerrard added: “We are talking to potential partners and we’ll see where it goes."
It comes as Holland & Barrett is planning to expand to travel hubs across the UK. The retailer has already opened a new kiosk-style format which is currently being trialled in Dublin.
Gerrard told Retail Week: “Travel is an early opportunity for us. We’ve got some travel stores that have great cut-through in London – London Bridge has been hugely successful.
“There’s a lot more travel locations than that we would love to get into if you can get the right offer.”
