Honda's 2025 Plans Include a New Electric SUV Named After a Car

Honda's premium arm is set to launch a new battery-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) this year. The 2026 Acura RSX will be the first all-electric Acura that is not based on a General Motors product. The company already sells the Acura ZDX SUV, which shares many of its components with the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

The RSX name originates with the car model that was sold starting in 2001. Overseas it was known as the Honda Integra. In America, it was the Acura RSX.

Fast forward to today and Acura already re-upped the Integra name for a compact sedan, leaving the RSX as an option following in the footsteps of revived nameplates like the Integra and ZDX, and the now-horizoned Insight.

The company showed off the vehicle to assembled media as part of a first-look digital event for journalists. In August, Acura showcased a concept version of the vehicle, the Acura Performance EV Concept, during Monterey Car Week.

Acura's RSX will be the first vehicle engineered on the new Honda-developed electric vehicle (EV) platform. It will also be the launchpad for the company's new ASIMO OS software.

Honda will make the SUV at its EV Hub in Ohio, outside Columbus. The company is retooling its plants to make them able to produce create internal combustion, hybrid-electric and battery electric vehicles on the same manufacturing line. Having a single platform that can accommodate these types of power sources helps to cut costs and production time.

Development testing of the new Acura EV on America's roadways is already underway. Passersby will be able to recognize it by the model's sloped roof and unique wrap, which was designed by the global Acura Design team.

"Even behind the camouflage that you see in the photo here, the Acura RSX looks like a stunning addition to the brand. The name and all its performance heritage feels very fitting. I can't wait to get behind the wheel. And more importantly, we can't wait to get you behind the wheel," Lance Woelfer, vice president of sales at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., told journalists at the preview event.

When brought to production the model will join the ADX, RDX and MDX in the Acura SUV family. The ADX will launch in the spring.
