It’s been just over a week since Liam Payne passed away, and there are still so many questions about his death — especially as it pertains to his relapse and partying ways. But now a new source is opening up about what he and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy were getting up to days before his passing, and it helps paint a better timeline for his erratic behavior.
As Perezcious readers know, Liam and Kate had been in Argentina since September 30 to attend Niall Horan’s concert in early October. They then extended their trip, seemingly because the One Direction star was trying to get his American visa sorted out. On the day of their arrival, he had to take a drug test for the visa, and the results came one day before he died, proving he was totally sober.

So, how come just about two weeks later, he died with multiple drugs in his system, so much that authorities think he may not have been conscious when he fell from his hotel balcony? When did his behavior change? Had he been acting like this the whole time or did it come on suddenly?
Well, as we covered, the 31-year-old and Kate were at the Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt together during the week prior to his tragic fall – that’s a different hotel from the one Liam died at. People sources previously claimed the Teardrops artist had been “kicked out” of the establishment “because he was being a nuisance and disturbing the other guests and appeared intoxicated.” This all made it seem like the couple had been partying way too hard for too long during the vacation — but that may not be the full story.
Insiders close to Kate opened up this week about her decision to fly home without her boyfriend, and what one of her biggest fears was before she left — and it certainly suggests that while she may have seen some red flags, she and Liam had NOT been partying too hard.
According to a friend via the New York Post, the content creator really struggled with the decision to leave on October 12 because she felt Liam was preparing to go on a bender — something she obviously worried about given his history of addiction. However, after extending her trip so much, Kate felt she was in a “hostage situation” and believed it was best for her to head home.
So, she saw some warning signs, but nothing to make her think what happened would happen, and another source is seemingly backing this theory up! On Saturday, a source from the initial hotel the pair were staying at told TMZ that Liam absolutely wasn’t kicked out. In fact, they thought he was a perfectly fine guest!
Wait, really??
The insider recalled the couple being in a celebratory vacation mood during their stay, and while Liam was partying pretty hard, it wasn’t anything they were concerned about. The source said the singer was “good guy” and behaved normally. While he did get “pretty drunk” on some nights, he was never belligerent. Instead, they felt he was just trying to be entertaining, such as by sometimes singing in the lobby. Wow. So, Liam’s drug issues really did escalate quickly…
After their week-long stay at the Park Hyatt, which had “no information to share” about the musician’s time there, Kate returned to Florida and Liam moved over to the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where he died just days later. It is believed that hotel employees may have taken advantage of him and supplied him with the drugs. Liam was partying and drinking with two alleged prostitutes in the hours before his death, as well as acting erratically in the lobby, where he smashed his laptop before being carried back to his room, which he trashed. At that point, staffers called 911 for help, but it was too late. So sad.
An investigation is ongoing, so in time, we will likely learn more about how Liam spent his last moments, but this helps clarify some things. It’s heartbreaking to see that his addiction struggles really kicked into high gear once he was left alone — and in a pretty short time period, too. That said, this in no way places any blame on Kate! She had every right to leave, and she clearly didn’t think any of this was going to happen!
