Hugh Grant isn’t holding back as he ‘hits out’ at Piers Morgan as the former Good Morning Britain host called the actor a ‘hypocrite’ for his views towards Rupert Murdoch. Recently, the government had ruled out a reopening of the Leveson enquiry, which Hugh had advocated for.
The actor, who settled a privacy case against NGN last year, reacted to the news on BBC Radio 4 on Friday morning in which he stated: “I have some sympathy, when I’m in a generous mood, for politicians terrified of the Murdochs.” A clip of the interview with Amol Rajan was posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, and it caught the attention of Piers.
“REMINDER: Hugh Grant took many millions of pounds from Rupert Murdoch to make movies for him. #hypocrite,” he wrote, quote tweeting the video. However, Hugh wasn’t letting Piers’ comments slide, as he quickly took to the social media platform to ‘hit back’.

Getty Images for BAFTA LA)“Bulls**t. The last time I worked for a Murdoch owned company was in 1994,” he stated. “Which was long before I knew anything about his papers’ methods. Since then I have turned down every single job offer emanating from a Murdoch owned company.”
In 2012, Grant settled a claim against NGN relating to unlawful information gathering at the News Of The World. Last year, he settled for a “large amount of money” with The Sun after being advised he risked being liable for £10m if his case went to trial.
It’s not the first time Piers has hit out at the Love Actually star. Just last year, he ripped into the star’s movie roles after his awkward interview at the Academy Awards. During the 95th Annual Academy Awards, Hugh angered fans after appearing bored during a chat with Ashley Graham.
Shortly after, Piers discussed the moment with Sharon Osbourne on his show, Piers Morgan’s Uncensored. Expressing her disapproval, the former X-Factor judge expressed: "I love Hugh Grant but he was out of order." However, Piers looked unimpressed as he asked Sharon if she really loved him. “Yes I do,” she reiterated. "I think he’s a great actor."
"A great actor? He plays the same role every time he does a movie!" Morgan exclaimed. He then proceeded to added that the star ‘plays the same role’ in every movie.
"I will say the thing is if you don’t want to talk to the press, if you’re bored by it all, don’t do the red carpet. That’s the way it is,” Sharon added, before Piers said Hugh “treated Ashley Graham I felt with total disrespect.”
