A dad's valiant but ill-fated attempt at a DIY project has gone viral on TikTok, sending viewers into fits of laughter.
In the short clip, posted by his daughter, who goes by @.kayleeschwab on the platform, the dad can be seen trying to remove a stair spindle with all his might. Determined to get the job done, he pulls and tugs on the wood hard, but instead of the spindle coming free in one piece, only the top part snaps off in his hands.
The force sends him flying forward, resulting in an unfortunate collision—his crotch rams straight into the remaining part of the spindle, much to his dismay and everyone else's amusement.
DIY incidents are common in the U.S. According to the National Safety Council, home improvement and DIY accidents result in thousands of emergency room visits annually. The most common incidents include falls, cuts and injuries caused by improper tool use.
Additionally, a survey by Porch found that around one in 10 people have suffered from an injury while attempting a DIY project.
Somehow though, this dad styles out the mishap. Although he is launched forward, the spindle keeps him from falling on his face and he manages to maintain his balance.
The video clocked up 77 million views and over 9.5 million likes. Daughter Kaylee also used chaotic audio to accompany the hilarious clip.
Thousands of other TikTok users flooded the comments section with crying-laughter emojis at the dad's comical experience.
"I can't breathe why did he stick his tongue out like that," one user wrote. Many others commented in capital letters to always remind them to watch this TikTok.
The viral clip even caught the attention of fast-food chain Wendy's in the U.K. The TikTok account commented that the scene was "straight outta some cartoon."
Another comment, which gained over 220,000 likes, read: "Why would u embarrass your father like that." Many commented that Kaylee's dad looked like Phil Dunphy from popular TV show Modern Family.
"I'm so glad you caught this on camera. AI couldn't replace this," another wrote.
