Gavin Henson, the Welsh rugby and Six Nations legend, was a mystery wrapped in an enigma during his sparkling playing days. The flamboyant fly-half started his career with Swansea before becoming a key player for Ospreys.

His flair and exceptional kicking skills made him a spectacle on the pitch, earning him comparisons to football superstar David Beckham. Henson played a pivotal role in Wales' 2005 and 2008 Six Nations Grand Slam victories and was selected for the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in 2005.

However, it was his off-pitch celebrity lifestyle that often stole the limelight. Mirror Sport takes a look into the 43 year old's life off the field, including his wealth, his high-profile romance with singer Charlotte Church, and his brave revival of a local pub.

What is Gavin Henson's net worth?

Information about Henson's current financial status years after his rugby prime are scarce, but it's estimated that he has a net worth of £800,000. During his tenure with Ospreys, where he made nearly 100 appearances, he signed a four-year deal in 2005, reportedly worth roughly £120k annually, according to Wales Online, reports the Mirror.

After this contract ended, he had stints with Saracens, Toulon, Cardiff Blues, London Welsh, Bath and Bristol, but as his form gradually declined, his earnings likely did too.

When did Gavin Henson date Charlotte Church?

Henson and Church, the beloved Welsh pair, first caught the public's eye back in 2005. The excitement grew when, two years later, Charlotte Church gave birth to a daughter, further delighting their followers with a second child in 2008.

The media was enraptured by their seemingly perfect romance. Yet, not long after they got engaged in 2010, they announced their separation.

While details of their break up remain private, Church did admit: "When he proposed, I was overjoyed. It was amazing. I really was going to marry Gav and spend the rest of my life with him."

She then added, referring to a pivotal moment of change: "But then he came back from Norway, and he'd changed, and I'd had time to think. We had both had a change of heart – so we were both of the same mind."

Presently, Henson and Church co-parent their teenage children amicably. Henson has since found new love and married Katie Wilson Mould in 2019.

Regarding Gavin Henson's current endeavours, following his retirement from rugby union in 2019, he briefly joined West Wales Raiders in League 1 for rugby league. However, this stint proved fleeting, as he hasn't played for the team in four years.

In 2019, former rugby ace Gavin Henson took a leap into the hospitality industry by taking over The Fox, a gastropub nestled in the Vale of Glamorgan, which he now manages with his wife, Katie. Chatting with The Times, Henson shared his transition from sports to suds: "I was coming to the end of my career, and it [the pub] had been sat here for 18 months, two years."

He added, "It was not nice for the village, and I needed something to do after rugby and to be busy, not to mourn rugby and get depressed, as they say everyone does."

Henson also confessed, "But be careful what you wish for because this is so full-on. We want to feel like we've achieved something with the pub. We're perfectionists. We're all about the detail."
