I love the smell of fresh laundry so when I noticed my usual fabric softener and laundry liquid weren't working their magic - even in a brand-new washing machine - I decided enough was enough.

My laundry didn't smell particularly unpleasant. My clothes smelled faintly clean and any stains and marks had disappeared after each wash but I expected my garments to have that "freshly washed" scent that we all aim for.

My towels and any heavy-duty items posed the biggest issue. Even with a cupful of white vinegar in each wash, my towels just smelled damp and musty when they emerged from the wash.

Desperate to find something simple and easy that didn't involve adding even more bottles to my already overflowing cleaning cupboard, I stumbled upon laundry sheets.

Laundry sheets, also known as detergent strips, are plastic-free sheets that are made from laundry detergent.

Zoflora and Beckmann's Magic Leaves Laundry Detergent Sheets in hand

Rather than pouring your laundry liquid into the detergent drawer, you add a sheet or two directly to your washing machine drum.

As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to give them a go. I loved the idea of ditching my large laundry detergent bottles for something small that I could easily slide in and out of the cupboard.

I opted for Dr. Beckmann's Magic Leaves Laundry Detergent Sheets Bio in the scent Fresh Blossom and over a year later, I'm still using them.

The sheets are a lot easier to use and are less messy than liquids which easily leak and spill. I simply add one or two sheets to the back of the drum with my laundry and let them work their magic.

The laundry sheets are serrated in the centre so if you're hand-washing an item, you can add the recommended half sheet.

For heavily soiled items, Dr. Beckmann recommends adding two sheets but I also use this amount on bedding and towels. Each packet contains 25 sheets for 25 washes.

The scent is beautifully floral and leaves my clothes with that coveted "freshly washed" scent. However, for an extra boost, and to ensure certain items are disinfected, I use Zoflora Concentrated Disinfectant.

I use Zoflora around my home to disinfect my floors, my dishcloths and to clean my bathroom. Not only is it a powerful disinfectant but it also leaves my rooms smelling gorgeous.

My favourite scent is 'Midnight Blooms' but I've also tried 'Linen Fresh', 'Bouquet' and 'Lemon Zing'.

To add an extra scent boost to my washing, I add half or one capful of Zoflora to the fabric conditioner drawer.

Once the laundry load is finished, I dry my washing on an indoor airer and find my entire home is filled with a fresh, floral scent.

Zoflora Midnight Blooms Concentrated Disinfectant can be bought from Ocado for £1.75 or Morrisons for £1.90.

Alternatively, you could try Dettol Antibacterial Laundry Cleanser Cotton Breeze which costs £6 from Waitrose, Astonish Protect and Care Laundry Cleanser which costs £2.50 from Ocado or Morrisons Cotton Fresh Antibacterial Laundry Cleanser which costs £3.

Dr. Beckmann Original Magic Leaves Laundry Detergent Sheets in Fresh Blossom cost £3.50 from Sainsbury's and Asda.

Alternatively, Swirl Non-Bio Fresh Clean Laundry Detergent Sheets cost £1.49 from The Range and Eco-Friendly Laundry Sheets in Ocean Breeze cost £7.99 from Amazon.
