I Love a Mama’s Boy star Matt McAdams is engaged! The TLC personality announced his engagement on Tuesday, November 26. Now, he exclusively opens up to In Touch about his proposal and his mystery fiancée and reveals whether his mom, Kelly McAdams, approves or not.
“So I told my family. They all knew beforehand,” Matt tells In Touch. “You know, ‘We’re going to Italy.’ I called my fiancée’s family. Asked her dad for permission, talked with them. And I told my family. I said, ‘This is … I’m gonna propose in Italy.’”
Matt’s mom, who has appeared alongside her son on TLC’s reality series since season 1, had a positive reaction to the news.
“My mom said, ‘Well, why wouldn’t you? It’s Italy.’ And I was like, ‘OK, so, mom, she is over the moon.’ She’s so excited. She’s very happy to, you know, have a daughter-in-law, and she’s excited,” the reality star says.
Matt also shares with In Touch his hopes for the future with his fiancée, whose identity he has kept private. “We want to start a family. So we probably will be pregnant within the first year of being married,” he continues. “I mean, there’s just so much happening.”
At the same time, Matt expresses concern about Kelly, who has inserted herself into his romantic relationships in the past. “There’s times when I think my mom is a little worried that maybe she is being replaced. But I think it’s part of just the evolution of everything happening, and it’s been a big year for the family, for sure,” he says.
Matt also shares that he met his fiancée on the dating app Hinge.
“As you’re dating in this day and age, it’s more like diving through a dumpster looking for an unopened bag of chips, it is brutal out there,” he says. “And you know, I had been through different dates, and it wasn’t working out. And then she and I … I actually had matched with her. And we had said like, ‘Oh, like, how about we get a drink?’ And she actually ghosted me for like two weeks, and I was like, ‘OK, I guess I won’t hear from her.’”
Matt adds that the woman did eventually respond to him and asked if his offer to get drinks still stood. He said yes.
“And honestly, at this point, I was like, ‘I’ll just go and see what happens. Because when you start going on all these different dates, you kind of start getting, I guess, less hopeful. So we went out to drink, some dinner,” he continues.
Matt says he had a great time and asked to see her again the following night. They went to a trivia night and had dinner again. Matt even asked for a third date for the next night.
“Because I was like, ‘I gotta get to know this girl, like, she’s so interesting.’ There’s so many things here, and I don’t want to … I guess at that point I already didn’t want to lose her, so we went out on a few dates, and everything went good,” he adds. “The first time she came to my house was Valentine’s Day. I cooked dinner for her. And honestly, things just clicked.”
Matt can’t help but gush about his soon-to-be wife.
“She’s just everything I was looking for in the sense of a partner, very supportive, and I’m just more and more grateful as time goes on,” he concludes. “We went on that first date, and I kept asking her for more dates, and she even says, ‘You know, one of the things about it was that you pursued me,’ and she said, ‘I liked it.’ She said, ‘You know guys don’t pursue anymore.’ They don’t do the whole dating aspects of what it used to be. I think nowadays people have gotten lazy with it. So I think she and I never were lazy, and I think that’s one of the things that really got us going.”
Matt announced his engagement via Instagram.
“Dancing through life – the next chapter begins in 2025,” he wrote in the caption alongside photos from their engagement shoot.
The TV personality debuted his then-girlfriend on his page in March 2023, although she kept her face covered with a Disneyland brochure in the photos.
“God has such a way of bringing people into our lives when it’s time. When things don’t work out as we planned it’s when we stop thinking of why it didn’t we then get the answer. Three days of exploring together, creating memories and spending time just with each other. Can’t wait for the next adventure!” the caption read.
Though the woman has appeared on Matt’s page multiple times since then, fans should not expect to see her on I Love a Mama’s Boy, as he revealed in the comments of a September post.
“No she will not be,” Matt responded to a fan who asked if his now-fiancée would be on the show. “She and I didn’t want her to have to go through the crap that comes with this. I hope people and my exes respect us as we do not bash people in this new season. We’ll see lol.”
