I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! has graced our screens once more, and in the episode aired on November 18, former Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse asked Tulisa from N-Dubz about the band's name. For those who cherished their youth in the noughties, N-Dubz likely holds a nostalgic spot in your playlist.
With chart-toppers like I Need You and Number One, the group delivered some absolute anthems that whisk you back down memory lane. The Camden Town trio is made up of cousins Dappy and Tulisa, alongside Fazer.
When Oti probed about the meaning behind N-Dubz, Tulisa explained that it represents North West London, the origin of the band members. A surprised Oti joked: "I'm N-Dubz!" It appears Oti wasn't alone in her lack of knowledge – numerous I'm A Celeb viewers have confessed their recent enlightenment.
One viewer took to X to say: "I was also today years old when I found out that N-Dubz stands for NW London," Another chimed in: "Anyone else who had no idea NDubz stood for North west London," while a third shared: "N-Dubz meaning NW was brand new information to me! Every day really is a school day."
Tulisa also divulged her initial solo ambitions, but it was her Uncle B, Dappy's father, who suggested forming a group instead. My uncle offered me 20 quid and then I bartered him up to 50," she explained.
After bagging a MOBO Award for Best Newcomer in 2007, N-Dubz briefly signed with Polydor Records before joining All Around the World. The following year their debut album, Uncle B, was certified double platinum and birthed four Top 40 singles.
In 2009, N-Dubz went onto win Best UK Act at the MOBO Awards and released their second album, Against All Odds. It rapidly rose to number six in the charts and was certified platinum.
Around the same time they also bagged their first top 10 single with "I Need You". They went onto release a third album before taking a 11-year hiatus to pursue solo careers.
Then, in May 2022, they returned with a comeback single, and a sold-out UK arena tour. But, even though their music has been in and out of our lives for years, it turns out people are still learning more about the band - including the meaning behind the name.
