I celebrated my 40th birthday recently, which gave me the perfect reason to indulge in a relaxing vacation with my new beau. For this milestone moment, I decided to revisit one of my favorite islands: Jamaica. It was top of mind when I was selecting a romantic destination because Jamaica offers just the right mix of fun and tranquility — and Montego Bay especially. From the vibrant reggae music to the mouthwatering jerk cuisine, Jamaica is always my top recommendation for anyone planning their next getaway — and I'm a travel influencer so I get asked for recommendations pretty often.
For this trip, I stayed at Breathless Resort and Spa, a Hyatt all-inclusive property. This luxury resort has beautiful views paired with great food and drinks, and they made my birthday unforgettable. We stayed in an Xhale Club master suite ocean view room, which included a living room, bar, and an outdoor hot tub that overlooks the picturesque bay. The Xhale Club rooms even come with a butler to help with any requests, which really enhances the luxury experience.
As an added bonus, there are two sister resorts within walking distance that offer more food options and amenities. I had a memorable spa day at Secrets, where I indulged in the water therapy circuit and a relaxing massage. If you're ready to pack your own bags and fly off to enjoy the island vibes, check out my list of essentials for a trip to Jamaica.
A Sweat-Prevention Essential
Lume Cream Tube Deodorant + Sweat Control ($21)
I've become obsessed with Lume, the aluminum-free deodorant brand that comes in sticks and creams — and I especially love the new Cream Tube Deodorant + Sweat Control. You can use this anywhere on your body that sweats — I have used it in all levels of heat and humidity and it truly works. My favorite scent is Peony Rose. Meanwhile, my boyfriend is a big fan of the cooling Manscaped Crop Reviver Spray ($11) for those extra hot and sweaty days.
Natural Insect Repellent
Murphy's Naturals Lemon Eucalyptus Oil Insect Repellent Spray ($24, originally $30)
One time I went to Jamaica and decided to get up at dawn to go to the beach before my flight with no insect repellent. Big mistake. This island has small biting insects called sand flies that will leave you with red marks all over. Take it from me, you want to be prepared. I've been switching over to plant-based repellent and I love the fresh scent of Murphy's Naturals Lemon Eucalyptus Oil Insect Repellent Spray.
A Skin-Care Must Have
Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution Water Cream Glow Moisturizer ($38)
Glass skin is trending and I have been scouring TikTok to find the best brand to achieve that viral look. One product I've been wearing lately is Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution Water Cream Glow Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid. This gel cream moisturizer adds an instant glow to my skin that lasts all day.
A Portable Speaker
JBL Clip 3 ($45)
When I have plans to hit the beach, I always make sure to grab my wireless speaker. The JBL Clip 3 is my go-to because it's also waterproof so I can bring it into the shower, pool, or beach and it still works. The sound quality is superb.
A Bucket Hat
Gigi Pip Sal Crochet Bucket Hat ($56)
If you have curly hair or extensions, Gigi Pip has the best range of hats that fit comfortably on your head. I never go to the beach without my Gigi Pip Sal Crochet Bucket Hat. It's packable and goes right back to its original shape.
An Airport Lounge Outfit
FP Movement Righteous Runsie ($98)
When traveling and lounging around the airport, I opt for a comfortable onesie. The popular FP Movement Righteous Runsie comes in a variety of colors and is the perfect flexible outfit that's easy to wear while traveling. The chic cut-out adds a bit of flavor.
Pro Tip: If you've ever flown to Jamaica, you know how long the customs lines can be. I made sure to get Club MoBay, which is an expedited VIP service that gets you through security lines faster and comes with lounge access including unlimited food and drinks. Trust me, you do not want to wait in lines for hours on end when kicking off your vacation. This service is well worth the cost.
A Fragrance With Vacation Vibes
Brown Girl Jane Perfume ($102)
I love a tropical and fruity fragrance for warm-weather vacations and the Brown Girl Jane perfume in Carnivale checks all my boxes. With notes of mango and vanilla, you'll give off a captivating aroma that's both refreshing and indulgently comforting.
A Romantic Dress For a Dinner Date
Aritzia Shimmer Satin Tube Dress ($128)
My partner and I had a private romantic dinner on the water to celebrate my birthday at Breathless's sister resort, Secrets Resort and Spa. The Shimmer Satin Tube Dress from Aritzia is the stylish showstopper I wore for the occassion. It has '90s throwback vibes, the A-line silhouette is flattering, and it creates a sexy, feminine silhouette.
A Neutral Pair of Sandals
Tory Burch Kira Sport Sandal ($328)
These Tory Burch sandals in the Havana Sand color are my go-to shoes for vacation. They're incredibly comfortable and provide solid ankle support while walking across the resort. The neutral color goes with all your tropical-print pieces, and you can rock them with casual and dressy outfits alike.
A Comfortable Daytime Look
PatBo Crochet Trim Fitted Midi Dress ($995)
For daytime outfits, I love crochet styles. The PatBo Crochet Trim Fitted Midi Dress is a great day-to-night dress that's perfect for walking around the resort without getting too hot. The black and cream combination mixed with beading detail makes this midi dress feel striking yet elegant. Plus, it has a beautiful form-fitting silhouette and the material offers a nice amount of stretch.
