I removed tea stains from my teaspoons with incredible cheap cleaner - they were sparkling (Image: Sophie Harris)
It’s the chemical compound known as tannins found in tea and coffee which causes a stubborn stain.
They can often be spotted in mugs and on teaspoons if they aren’t rinsed straight after consuming the drink.
Sometimes even when cleaned and run through the dishwasher, they can still be visible.
Luckily, there are a few different solutions to try and remove the stains, although natural remedies such as white vinegar or baking soda haven’t always been effective for me.
Due to this, I turned to Elbow Grease’s Cup Cleaner, and I was shocked at how well it worked.

Available for £1.69 from The Range, the product claims to remove tea and coffee stains with ease, whilst being simple to use.
It’s suitable for ceramic, china and porcelain and I also used it on teaspoons.
The description reads: “Restore your cups to their former glory with this Elbow Grease Cup Cleaner.
“This cleaner removes the stubborn stains left behind by tea and coffee, giving your cups the gleaming shine they had before.”
To start with, I placed half a teaspoon of powder into the cup, adding near-boiling water to it and leaving it to fizz.
It’s important not to use boiling water straight from the kettle, so I let it cool a little before pouring it in.
I then added in all of the teaspoons which needed cleaning and left it to cool for one to two hours.
After the time was up, the water had turned brown with all of the stains released from the teaspoons.

I then thoroughly rinsed both of the teaspoons to unveil sparkling spoons and a super clean mug.
I was so surprised at how well this product worked, and my teaspoons looked brand new.
My spoons didn’t need another round of cleaning, but if you have super-stained spoons or mugs, then it can easily be repeated.
Denture tablets also work well, according to online cleaning enthusiasts as they work in a similar way to remove stains.
