There are many high-end hair care brands on the market, but it’s always refreshing to see a retailer offering a cheaper alternative.

I recently tried Aldi’s Lacura Wonder Spray for £4.99, which claims to be similar to Colour Wow Dream Coat at £27 a bottle full price.

Formulated with Calendula Officinalis Flower Water, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract and Glycolic Acid, hair lovers can save £22 purchasing Aldi's version compared to Chris Appleton’s vital Colour Wow Dream Coat Spray, favoured by celebrities.

Having used the Colour Wow spray for over a year now, I was super intrigued to see if the Aldi one could live up to my expectations.

It’s a heat-activated, shine-enhancing anti-humidity hair spray designed to give you glossy, waterproof hair with built-in heat protection.

There’s lots I love about the Colour Wow spray, but there’s also lots I dislike including how much you have to use for it to be effective, as well as it sometimes leaving a greasy feel on the hair.

It’s also incredibly expensive, retailing for around £27 when full price.

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with my hair, hating how frizzy it becomes without using heat.

The Colour Wow spray has saved my hair on a number of occasions, as it promises to maintain frizz and lasts for several washes.

That’s why I was super excited to try Aldi’s cheaper alternative which promises to transform frizzy textures with added humidity protection.

The Wonder Spray is just £4.99 for 200ml of product, and it’s both dermatologically tested and cruelty-free.

It claims to absorb excess oil and refresh hair while also leaving a smooth and shiny finish for up to three days.

To put the products to the test, I used Aldi’s product on its own for one week and then tested Aldi’s product on one side of my hair and Colour Wow’s on the other side.

Firstly, in appearance, they’re very similar bottles but I do prefer the look and feel of Colour Wow’s one.

However, the test has nothing to do with what they look like and has everything to do with how they work and I was super surprised with the cheaper one’s performance.

The Lacura Wonder Spray has a much finer mist when sprayed, which is perfect for avoiding too much product build-up, a problem I was facing with the Colour Wow bottle.

It doesn’t have too much of a smell, but from what I can make out, I do prefer the Colour Wow’s scent which equally isn’t too overpowering.

When blow-drying my hair, I sprayed exactly the same amount of product onto each side to see how well the Aldi one could perform.

My hair didn’t feel greasy at all after using the Lacura spray and I much preferred how the mist was finer. It also worked extremely well when blow-drying my hair, working in the same way as the expensive alternative.

In fact, when my family were asked which side of my hair was smoother and more frizz-free, 100 percent of them said the Aldi side.
