Iconic Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder brought Brisbane Lions legend Jonathan Brown on stage during the band’s Melbourne show at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.

A photo from the crowd shows Brown, a three-time AFL premiership champion, with guitar in hand alongside Vedder in front of the packed stadium.

“Jonathan Brown got called on stage by Eddie Vedder as ‘my mate Browny’ tonight in Melbourne,” AAP’s Oliver Caffrey said on social media.

The two have a connection through a charity they both support, EB Research Partnership.

EBRP funds research to find a cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa, a devastating and life-threatening genetic skin disorder.

“I didn’t really know him as a hero, but he’s absolutely become one of mine just from knowing him,” Vedder said.

“Jonathan Brown, say hi to the people!”

Replying to Caffrey’s photo, one fan laughed at the comparison with Pearl Jam’s New Zealand performance.

“Auckland got a guest performance with Neil Finn singing throw your arms around me, we get Browny,” the fan wrote on social media.

Pearl Jam will be back in action at Marvel again on Monday night.

The grunge legends Pearl Jam have returned Down Under for the first time in a decade for the Australian leg of their Dark Matter tour.

The band started at Carrara Stadium on Queensland’s Gold Coast on Wednesday night, but their appearance was delayed by over an hour due to lightning strikes in the area.

The stage was wrapped up and punters were unable to enter the stadium as a front crossed the southeast of the state.

The concert, supported by indie rockers The Pixies, is one of Vedder and co’s first since the US election.

During the campaign, Vedder and bassist Jeff Ament hosted Vice President Kamala Harris’s partner Doug Emhoff on the band’s streaming radio channel.

With Vedder well known for his progressive views on issues such as abortion rights, the election result really is a dark matter for the Seattle rockers.
