Inside Cher's 40-year age-gap romance with music exec despite previous cheating accusations

Cher is rarely seen with her boyfriend Alexander Edwards, but the couple, who share a four decade age gap are still going strong after going public with their relationship in 2022

Pop icon Cher, 78, may have been in the music game for an impressive 61 years, but her star status is as high as ever. Come Friday 29 November, she's set to jazz up Graham Norton's chat show with tales from her latest memoir.

But it's not just her career keeping her on her toes; the singing sensation's love life is abuzz with romance, thanks to her much younger beau, Alexander Edwards. At 37, Edward is a whopping 40 years junior to Cher, but that hasn't put a damper on their love. The couple, who turned heads when they stepped out hand-in-hand last November 2022, have been going steady despite the age difference.

In a candid talk with OK! magazine last year, Cher gushed about her music exec partner, saying: "He's a dear but I haven't hardly been able to see him. It's like the in and out, kiss, 'hi baby' and we get to have a dinner or something like that. But he's going to some fashion shows with me here [Paris], which is admirable because he isn't that interested, even though he loves fashion. He just went to hold my hand."

Alexander was thrust into the spotlight after the paparazzi shots showing off their close bond in November 2022. Despite criticism due to their age difference, Cher has remained defiantly cool, serving a series of sharp-tongued social media retorts to silence any doubters.

Cher made it Instagram official with a photo captioned "Alexander". When fans asked if he was her "new man," she responded with a love heart emoji. Addressing the age gap, Cher quipped, "Love doesn't know math."

Alexander isn't new to the celebrity dating scene; he previously dated model Amber Rose for three years until their split in August 2021. Amber took to social media to reveal he had cheated on her with 12 different individuals to her Instagram which he later admitted. The former flames have a son together.

In March 2024, Amber discussed her dynamic with Andrew and Cher's involvement in their son's life on The Jason Lee Podcast. She shared her contentment, stating: "I'm very happy that [Alexander is] with Cher because it creates stability for when [our] son goes over there," adding that it's not chaotic at Cher's place.

Alexander holds an executive position at Universal Music Group, rubbing shoulders with stars like Post Malone, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande. He first met Cher at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022, and although they weren't photographed together, Cher posted a picture with Alex's friend Tyga.

In September 2023, a year later, they made heads turn by appearing at Paris Fashion Week (PFW), looking every bit the smitten couple. They were seen in the front row at the Balmain Womenswear Spring/Summer 2024 fashion show.

On an episode of Chicken Shop Date with Amelia Dimoldenberg, Cher opened up about how her text exchange with Edwards began. She recounted her amusing annoyance, saying: "I left to go to Switzerland, and he texted me. He said, 'Where are you going? ' I said, 'I'm going to Switzerland, I'm a little tired.' And then he wrote me, 'Well, get some rest babyyy.' And I went, he doesn't know me well enough to put three y's on baby," the hitmaker recalled.

"I was kind of pissed off. And then he just started texting me."

Cher humorously admitted that her own love advice was disregarded as she confessed, "I told my friends, don't fall in love with a younger man, we're too old, and don't ever fall in love by text. There goes that theory."
